Visit to Makerere University

Today concluded an intensive 2-day visit to Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda with visits to the Department of Pharmacology and the Infectious Diseases Institute coordinated by Aida Kawuma, NGS fellow 2017. In the Pharmacology department, discussions revolved around the scientific programs of the core academic staff and students. A major focus was to consolidate plans for establishing a blended learning clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics training program as a collaborative effort with African institutions (University of Cape Town) and partners in Europe (Faculty Capacity Development).

The site visits to the Infectious Diseases Institute, and discussions with the local leadership of IDI and Pharmacology revealed the rich potential for quantitative analyses of locally collected clinical research data from Uganda and regional trial participants to be conducted by locally trained scientists.
